The GST Council has postponed its decision on reducing tax
rates for life and health insurance premiums, officials told news agency PTI.
During the 55th meeting held on Saturday, technical considerations led to the
deferral, with the Group of Ministers (GoM) tasked to conduct further
deliberations.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the meeting, which concluded that additional discussions were needed before finalising any changes.

GST, is an indirect tax imposed on the supply of goods and services. It is a multi-stage, destination-oriented tax imposed on every value addition, replacing multiple indirect taxes, including VAT, excise duty, service taxes, etc.

President Shri Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi
launched the Goods and Services Tax (GST), a historic tax reform, in the
midnight of June 30 – July 1st, 2017 at the Central Hall of
Parliament House, New Delhi.
04. Who is called the Father of GST in India ?
In India, the title of “Father of GST” is given to the former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

There are 15 digit alphanumeric unique GSTIN number, unique

On December 19, 2014, the bill was introduced in the Lower House of the
Parliament (Lok Sabha) by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. The bill passed from the
Lok Sabha on May 06, 2015 and the bill passed from Rajya Sabha on 03rd
August, 2016.
Finally, the GST Act, that was passed by Parliament on 29th March 2017 and came into effect on 1st July 2017.
